[Finished] Redemption (BTS - Mafia AU)
  • Chapter 37
  • Yeonjun
  • I had been working on trying to locate the * since last night. The others had gone to the hospital to be with Minji and Jimin. God, I can’t imagine what either of them are feeling right now.
  • I knew I would go crazy if my sister called me because she was attacked. God, I could barely get myself to imagine how broken I would feel to see my sister in a hospital bed. In a way, Minji and Hanuel are a bit similar – both of them had something precious taken from them. Just thinking about the fact that Minji lost her baby like this makes me just as sick as knowing my sister was forced into that surgery when she just was sixteen. The world can be so cruel sometimes.
  • I looked at the screen which showed Minji’s photo. I sighed as I thought about the pain she had to go through. She didn’t deserve it. Nobody did but Minji has always been a good person, even in this damned shadow world. She was pure and gentle even if she was stern at the same time.
  • Minji had been living in Japan for the past two years. I still remember before she left. The two of us had been good friends. She was one of those people who helped me a lot when I joined, even if she was younger than me. She was someone who always helped me to not give up on finding my own sister. She was someone who continued to give me hope that things get better.
  • She resembled her brother a lot back then. She was rather short, like him, not that he admitted it. He just loved the fact she was shorter than him. She had a beautiful figure with slightly chubby cheeks that she used to hate but I loved.
  • She had the most beautiful smile and her laughter could light up a room. We often spent hours talking on the roof. We had become best friends and I could honestly say I even had a crush on her. Maybe it was even more than a crush but she was Jimin’s sister, so I always kept back, unsure of how he would react. Besides, she never gave me any hint that she liked me back.
  • Then two years ago, things had gotten a bit heated between Exo and Bangtan, with Hoseok losing his family, so Jimin had sent her to Japan to be safe. She had been working with Hiro who takes care of the three largest Casinos in Japan which belong to Bangtan. Last I knew, she was learning the trade so she could take over eventually.
  • Now, things seemed to have changed overnight. I did not know much except that she was coming to Seoul and this guy – this * son of a * attacked her. It did not seem random though, it seemed planned and like he knew her. It was deliberate.
  • I frowned with frustration as I drank my fifth mug of coffee. I was still waiting for certain results which seemed to be taking forever. Suddenly, the door opened and I turned to look.
  • ‘Oh hey noona,’ I greeted but it was hard to fake a smile. She just nodded and put her sword on the table before she pulled a chair and sat next to me.
  • ‘You haven’t slept have you?’ she asked. I just shrugged in response. ‘I can tell. You look like *,’ she said.
  • ‘You don’t look much better, no offense noona,’ I said but she chuckled sadly.
  • ‘None taken. You know everything, don’t you? I mean about the…’ she paused, almost as if unable to say it. I could see the sad, broken look in her eye as she tried to spit out.
  • ‘The baby? Yeah I know the *er ended up causing her to miscarry,’ I said and she nodded once more. ‘I think it was deliberate honestly,’ I said.
  • ‘The attack or the miscarriage?’ she asked and I frowned as I ran my hand through o famy hair.
  • ‘The attack for sure. I’m not so certain about the baby. He might have known and wanted her to abort or something and she refused so he removed it this way but I don’t know,’ I admitted.
  • ‘Anything is possible Jun. Have you found anything so far?’ she asked.
  • ‘A lot of bits and pieces, not enough to get the guy exactly,’ I admitted with another frown.
  • ‘It doesn’t matter. Namjoon still wants to see what you have so come on, let’s go,’ she said. I grabbed my laptop and followed her up to the office.
  • Namjoon
  • It was hard to tell what emotion was the most dominant right now. Sadness and heartbreak for what Minji went through. Rage for this animal who did this to her. Worry that I put her in danger by placing her in charge of the Casino.
  • ‘Yeobo, what happened was not your fault,’ Myung said as she squeezed my shoulders. I sighed as I put my own hand above hers.
  • ‘I’m not so sure baby,’ I said. ‘God, I can’t stop hearing her scream. The way she just screamed for her baby. It honestly broke my heart Myung,’ I said.
  • ‘I know baby, I know,’ she said, kissing the top of my head. ‘When I was…’ she began, pausing slightly. ‘When I was attacked, I had been so scared, not for myself but for our son. I was lucky Hanuel was there. I just… I wish Minji told us she was coming. Someone would have gone to pick her up,’ she said and I nodded.
  • ‘I know,’ I said just as the door opened. Hanuel walked in with Hoseok, Jin, Yoongi and Yeonjun. Taehyung and Jungkook were both staying with Jimin for now.
  • I watched as they all settled down. Everyone looked tired because no one really slept last night. I looked over at Yeonjun who seemed jittery and his hand shook slightly, probably from all the caffeine he must have taken.
  • ‘Usually I have something to tell you but today, today I am just sad and angry,’ I admitted with a scoff at how pathetic that sounds. ‘I want this *. Yeonjun, tell me what you managed to get so far,’ I prompted.
  • Yeonjun gulped, seemingly nervous but Hanuel nodded at him. He stood up and connected his laptop to the big screen which instantly showed the insane number of tabs. I wonder how much this kid has actually been working!
  • ‘I got a lot of bits and pieces,’ he began with a frown. I could not tell whether he was simply annoyed or angry or both.
  • ‘It’s okay Yeonjun. That’s where everything stars. Tell us what you have and we’ll start building the bigger picture,’ Yoongi prompted.
  • ‘So, you know how none of the CCTV cameras managed to catch his face right?’ he asked.
  • ‘Yeah. The *er knew where to avoid looking and he was wearing a baseball cap and mask,’ Hoseok said, his hand balled into fists.
  • ‘Exactly, but I managed to follow him until I saw him get into a car. Now, I kept following the car but I could never really get a clear license plate from the CCTV cameras. I only got a partial plate but I have hacked into the FBI server to use their program. I am running the car model of that colour with that partial plate. So far, I’ve had about seven hits,’ Yeonjun explained.
  • ‘That’s pretty solid work you did there Yeonjun. It’s much more than what you’re giving yourself credit for,’ Jin complimented. Yeonjun nodded as he licked his lip, trying to compose himself.
  • ‘Thanks. Anyways, Namjoon after you called, I called Hiro and asked some questions. I asked whether there were any fights or arguments lately at any of the Casino but there was nothing of the sort. It seems Minji was getting along with everyone. Not exactly surprising,’ he said.
  • ‘You’re right. Minji has a certain charm that makes people drop their defences. It’s one of the many reasons she is so good at what she does,’ I said.
  • ‘Hiro said she was dating some guy named Eric but he doesn’t know the surname or details. He just knows they were dating for a while but the day before the attack happened, she went crying into Hiro’s arm and telling him she was coming here and to not trust Eric,’ Yeonjun explained.
  • ‘I’m thinking of two major reasons. Either he is an * who cheated on her or broke her heart or he was someone who was using her to get to Bangtan,’ Yoongi explained.
  • ‘If it’s the latter, it could explain why he would try to kill her. If she found out, he might want to shut her up,’ Jin said.
  • ‘I swear to God, when I get my hands on him, he is going to regret being born,’ Hoseok said angrily.
  • ‘Yeonjun, look at the list of those car owners and cross reference them with any guy named Eric. Let’s start with there. Yoongi, maybe you should help him out a bit,’ I suggested.
  • ‘Of course. Come on kid, let’s go,’ Yoongi said as he stood up. Yeonjun nodded as he grabbed his things and the two left together.
  • ‘You might have to wait for her version of events. It could have just been a bad break up,’ Myung said and I nodded.
  • ‘I know. I won’t have him dead without being sure,’ I said as I looked down. A certain chilling silence fell into the room.
